Ode To The Seventies

So, I turned 70. I think my friends are getting a little tired of hearing me say that. But, you need to understand, this is all new to me. 70 is a big one, in my view of life. All the stores offer discounts to 60+ers. 70 is different. There are no extra added discounts, only the realization that you are more than just 70; you are starting into your 80th decade. Yikes! That is an eye-opening, pinky-twister.

For a few days, during my first 70s week, I became keenly aware of my life and my days and the importance of both. I am planning some changes in my new decade; changes I am not ready to share with you, especially since changes seem to change at any moment. Life has a way of doing that – changing.

Let’s talk about being “aware.” I was walking up to attend journalling. I had gathered all I needed for the writing portion. I had remembered to close the garage door with my trusty remote, which I had remembered to bring. Halfway up to the clubhouse, I realized I still had JoJo nestled in my right arm. He is so light, very quiet, and ready for any GO that he almost made it. Should I be worried? It’s probably good that I do not grandma-sit. Just saying. I didn’t suddenly become feeble-minded on my birthday. Any apprehension I feel is self-made. I guess it is true what they say: “Age is in the mind.” I would tell you who they are but I’ve forgotten.

The best part of my birthday each year is the shooting stars of holidays that fall from the sky in rapid succession. Then the new year blasts off, and then Spring bursts forth. It’s all just enough to keep my mind busy. Besides, walking back to my house to drop JoJo off is needed exercise. As they say: “Exercise keeps the body young.” Maybe I should concentrate on that thought. Again, I’ve forgotten who they are.

Oh, and one more thing. Until today, I couldn’t hit the 100 mark on my bowling game. You guessed it, I hit 100. Then, I bowled a 104 game (a new record for me.) So, I have decided that we bowl much better in our 70’s than in our 60’s. You can quote me on that and, yes, I can remember who said it.
