Stuck In Lodi Again

Driving on the road toward the rising sun.

If you know that 1969 song by CCR then you are really old like me. Either that or you are a young nostalgia buff and know what is truly good music.

Well, to be exact, I am not really stuck here in Sonoma County, Santa Rosa. I am just here to squeeze in the last of my wellness exams, perhaps an early flu shot, and to say a final goodbye to all those I have come to love. In some ways it is like knowing when you are going to die and having the celebration of life while you can still enjoy it. Does that sound macabre? Sorry, to me it is the sound of celebrating people and memories. No regrets!

There is something about being in that “in-between” in your life. I know it happens to other people who are making a big move. The younger you are, the stronger the fear of the unknown, along with the doubts. However, when you are younger, you have the knowledge that there is plenty of time left to “make it right.” Being older, I took a little longer to decide on a move. Yes, it took me 10,000 miles to decide on such a big change to my life.

My mother was the worst about making decisions. She always claimed that being born in Gemini (the Twins), she couldn’t help but look at both sides. I remember a shopping day while on vacation in Mazatlan. She really wanted a leather purse. We walked through seven (yes, I counted) stores because she couldn’t decide. We left our fingerprints on a lot of purses. Finally, two very tired women returned to the first store and she picked out the first purse she had touched. Even then, she hesitated twice on her way to the cash register. It was in moments like that I was glad I took after my father.

I’ll head up soon to see my high school buddy, Kathe (spelling is correct) and to see my step-daughter, Christina. My car will already be packed so I will head, from there, straight back east to North Carolina, where my POD will meet me. I will unpack and begin my new life and new adventures.

Here we go!
