My Week . . .

Snow across a parking lot.

When you make fun of Mother Nature she makes sure you know she has heard. I mocked the weather report, which claimed snow would appear. So, three days later, snow appeared. Seven inches in 24 hours. It was beautiful. I watched as white fluffies fell gently to the ground. I watched as Cardinals came to the feeder and danced from perch to perch, occasionally dropping to the ground to catch the escaped seeds which could not hide from the experienced seed-hunting birds even in seven inches of snowfall. The cherry red birds just slightly sinking into the winter white blanket across the ground: Beautiful! I wanted to go out and build a mini-snowman in my tiny yard.

I WANTED to go out, but my head cold – I get one every winter – had dropped into my upper chest. That kicked my asthma into high gear causing me to pull out my inhaler. The cough was fast and furious and I had to use my high-powered, long-acting inhaler three times a day. I hate using it even just once in a while, but I have had bronchial pneumonia twice before in my life and did not want a re-repeat. So, I hid from the world and gave up on my snowman venture. Soup became my best friend, besides JoJo, who, by the way, was perfectly happy to have me by his side 24 hours a day.

The snowfluff stayed on the frozen ground for almost five days, turning into a crispy crunch before the temperature rose to just above freezing, melting the scary snowcone ice on the ground. When it melted, it melted quickly. No more winter wonderland. That morning, I awoke to a strange sensation: quiet. I was not coughing. My harsh, asthmatic cough was not the first item to deal with. I still had the cough, but it no longer had me.

The nights are still freezing, literally, but no more snow (to date).

Tomorrow is the Super Bowl. I do love the commercials. Iโ€™m rooting for one team only because they are playing the other team that beat my favorite team. The team I am rooting against shall remain nameless but they might have something to do with ocean birds (Bad ocean Birds!) There will be a community snack potluck, and we are allowed to bring our own beverages to the Pub, which has a large screen TV. Snacks, drinks, friends, and Super Bowl commercials. What could be better?

So, that’s my week in a nutshell
