It has been weeks since my writing group has met. We usually meet weekly but the holidays have gotten in the way and I have missed our time together. These are my Muses, giving me ideas, sometimes simply by their presence, on what I should write about. As I sat here, in front of my computer, the one with a blank screen, I became aware of how much I miss our time together. We will meet Tuesday but today is Saturday and I want to publish this blog tomorrow morning.
I value my alone time but I’m also keenly aware that John Donne was right when he penned, “No man (or woman) is an island.” We are meant to have connections in our lives. Sometimes you have to deal with difficult people, but when you look back on those times you might realize how a difficult situation helped you learn, grow, become stronger, etc. Sometimes, you meet people who are intriguing, knowledgeable, entertaining, comical; in other words, people just like me (cough, cough). Sometimes, you find a small group of like-minded writers, unique in their subjects and stories. They cause you to open up your mind and your heart like a double-bloom lily. The words pour out and onto the screen. You see, just thinking about those connections has helped me to write something
Consider those “connections” in your life, even if you do not see them frequently. They help you become a live part of the world. The same goes for those you come in contact with.
You walk down the street, pass another person crossing your path and you say “Good morning.” You may be the only person they have had contact with in a long time. They might carry that moment with them back to their island of solitude and, it might be enough to get them through.
So, anyway, the holidays messed with my mojo. I need my fellow writers, and I will see them on Tuesday, so all is well with my world tonight.
